Customer Interviews No. 1
Week 4
1.
Find an
opportunity: I think that there is a big opportunity for success in the
restaurant industry in Gainesville. Specifically, I think that we could use a
classic breakfast/brunch restaurant in mid-town, close to where many students
live. I know that there are several good restaurants that students enjoy eating
lunch and dinner at, but there aren’t any great breakfast places near by.
2.
Who has the unmet
need: I think that anyone who lives within a few miles of mid-town and/or
anyone who enjoys breakfast foods would love this restaurant and eat at it
regularly.
3.
List of
Questions:
What’s your name and how old
are you?
How long have you lived in
Gainesville?
Are you a student? If so,
what are you studying?
Do you prefer breakfast,
brunch, lunch, or dinner, and why?
Do you eat breakfast on a
daily basis?
If you had the option to go
to a breakfast/brunch place in midtown, would you go?
How often?
4.
Go talk to
customers. I have found five random people to interview.
5.
What I learned
about the opportunity: I think that a breakfast and/or brunch place would
thrive in Gainesville. I think that there is a big market for people who would
eat breakfast on the weekends and sometimes during the week.
6.
What I learned
about interviewing customers: I learned that interviewing random people is really
awkward and it makes me feel really uncomfortable. It is hard to make someone
feel comfortable in an interview setting and I think it is something that will
get easier with practice.
Hey, Laura. I definitely enjoy your idea; breakfast is an important meal, and there's something about the charm of a classic local breakfast/brunch joint or cafe. If there was one in midtown, I'd stop by every so often, for sure.

I also agree that there is a good market for local restaurants in Gainesville, since I've experienced a lot of it firsthand. Interviews are certainly awkward at first, but confidence is the key, and it does build with practice.
Hi Laura. I love your idea for a brunch spot in mid-town. There are some great places downtown, but that location definitely misses out on a large portion of the student population. I would for sure dine at a good brunch spot in mid-town.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing! You did a great job with the interviews. Here's a link to my blog if you want to check it out. http://jamestyrrell.blogspot.com/
Hi Laura!
ReplyDeleteGreat work on your first customer interviews! I always eat at midtown and I would DEFINITELY go to a bunch spot in mid-town. Like J Tyrrell said, there are some places downtown but midtown is so close to the majority of the population! You did a wonderful job conducting these interviews as well! Great work!
